Assessment
The Student Assessment Guide and Learning Plan describes the evidence required to be competent in this unit.

You can track your progress by comparing it against unit requirements and at every stage of your learning and study. You can also get support from your iTAFE mentor and advisor.

Study Guide
There are many ways that you might choose to make your way through the unit. The diagram and suggested sessions (below) will help to plan your learning through the Design & implement the curriculum to foster children's learning & development unit. The sessions outlined below are a suggestion only - you may have another way that you prefer to study.

Session 1 Develop appropriate settings and environments
This includes
·         Evaluate and modify the learning environment and materials to support all aspects of children’s learning, and promote opportunities for sustained shared thinking and collaborative learning
·         Assess and modify the learning environment and materials to ensure that families and the community are respected
·         Implement learning environment modifications
·         Promote an appreciation of the natural environment
·         How to navigate through framework and standards documents to find areas relevant to this unit of competency.
A few points to think about for your blog:
·         Can you give me an example of how learning environment and materials may be modified to ensure that families and the community are respected?
·         How does an effective educator promote that opportunities for children’s shared thinking & collaborations in the learning environment?

Session 2 Design and implement curriculum in consultation with others
This includes
·         Consult with children and families to assist with reflecting on the current curriculum and learning environments and identify current strengths and goals
·         Design & Implement curriculum that reflects the philosophy of the service
·         How to navigate through framework and standards documents to find areas relevant to this unit of competency
A few points to think about for your blog:
  •   Element 1.1.1 of the Early Years Learning Framework asks educators to focus on progressing each child’s learning and development towards the five Learning Outcomes when planning the curriculum. Element 1.1.2states that ‘Each child’s current knowledge, ideas, culture, abilities and interests are the foundation of the program.’ How do educations ensure the curriculum is designed  to ensure each child’s current knowledge, ideas, culture, abilities and interests are the foundation of the program?
  •  In what ways can children & families contribute to your planning and implementation of the curriculum?
Session 3 Design learning experiences to foster children’s learning and development
This includes
·         Collect data on each child
·         Analyse data collected to identify each child’s interests, strengths and goals in conjunction with approved learning network
·          Clarify specific objectives,  learning environments, role of the educator and assessment/evaluation methods and evidence using the approved framework’s learning outcomes, principles and practices.
·         Design learning environments to foster holistic learning & provide continuity of learning and transitions
·         Plan for ways to monitor and asses children’s learning consistent with the principle and practices of the approved framework, ensuring both planned and unplanned experiences are considered for assessment
A few points to think about for your blog:
·         What may the consequences to the children in the service if the curriculum does not reflect their interests, strengths & goals?
·         Explain why the curriculum needs to reflect the philosophy of the service?
Session 4 Implement learning experiences to foster children’s learning and development
This includes
·         Ensure that required materials are identified and available at time of implementation
·         Set up the physical learning environment
·         Co-construct meaning with children and ensure there are sustained interactions
·         Model and promote enabling learning dispositions
·         Monitor and reflect on children’s learning and own pedagogical practices and continuously refine
A few points to think about for your blog:
·         What are the skills required by an educator to  co-construct meaning with children engaged in learning experiences?
·         Can you explain further why it is important for the educator to monitor & reflect on own pedagogical practices?
Session 5 Assess and evaluate planned and unplanned teaching and learning
This includes
·         Use or establish opportunities to gather feedback from families and children
·         Collect data using a range of methods in order to assess and evaluate teaching and learning, both planned and unplanned, using approved frameworks
·         Ensure assessment and evaluation of the curriculum and learning experiences are regular and in accordance with service guidelines
·         Use assessment and evaluation to influence the design of future curriculum and learning experiences
A few points to think about for your blog
·         What would be consequences if ongoing assessments & evaluations of the curriculum were not done?
·         Give examples of suitable evaluation methods used to collect data in order to assess and evaluate teaching and learning, both planned and unplanned.
